|Hagel and Schumer|
Schmuck Schumer (D) senior United States Senator from New York
We all know about Chuck Hagel and his views on Israel, foreign policy and a host of issues. Click here to learn more
Schumer was purported to be the one to stand up against Hagel’s nomination but not so, it would seem!
Schumer and Hagel met Monday afternoon at the White House with Schumer reporteing back as follows:
"Based on several key assurances provided by Senator Hagel, I am currently prepared to vote for his confirmation; I encourage my Senate colleagues who have shared my previous concerns to also support him."
Apparently it is OK in Schumer’s mind for Hagel to retract from his lifelong views on Israel, abortion and gays- all for a confirmation hearing and preach that he is being sincere.
On Iran, Hagel has now "rejected a strategy of containment" "and expressed the need to keep all options on the table in confronting Iran. He also assured that he’d "whatever it takes" to keep Iran from a nuclear weapon, including using military force.
His "top priority" would be planning military contingencies tied to Iran.
So, Hagel was against sanctions, but mysteriously he is for them now! Sounds like we have a disciple of John Kerry here! (At least we don't have Kerry working for the Government now...oh wait!)
- Hagel refused to call Hezbollah a terrorist organization, but miraculously he believes that they are now!
- Hagel insisted, in writing, that America should open direct talks with Hamas; mysteriously he doesn't support that now!
- Hagel only now regrets his comments on the “Jewish Lobby”. I also imagine that he regrets saying “Our relationship with Israel is special and historic... But it need not and cannot be at the expense of our Arab and Muslim relationships.”
Shmuck Schumer was honest about one thing that he said:
|Schumer's boss is not the American people, but Obama|
“I know some will question whether Senator Hagel's assurances are merely attempts to quiet critics as he seeks confirmation to this critical post but I don't think so.”
Schumer is a Democrat first and foremost. The idea of standing on principle and giving Hagel a rough time against the wishes of his boss, Obama is something that he didn't want to do. If he had an ounce of a backbone, then he would've rejected the clear pandering from Hagel and Obama and stood firm.
Schmuck Schumer certainly isn't interested in doing so.
